Mangalvedha is a city and a municipal council in Solapur district. It was also known as Mangalvad or Mangaliveda during the reign of Kalachuris. The municipality of Mangalvedha was established at Mangalvedha in 1874.It subsequently came to be known as Mangalvedha.Mangalvedha has a population of 21,694. Males constitute 52% of the population and females 48%. Mangalvedha has an average literacy rate of 68%.Agriculture is the main source of income for the people of Mangalvedha. Mangalvedha is also the birthplace of Shri Jayatirtha also called as Teekacharya. He was one of the greatest saints of the Dvaita school of Vedanta. There is also a Sugar Factory at Mangalwedha. The main places of interest in the town are the temples dedicated to Saint Damaji, Saint Chokha, Vishveshwar and Mahadeo and the chauburji of the fort besides a house in a dilapidated condition which was the residence of the last Maratha general Bapu Gokhale.
